Weekend Planner: Cask Ale Festival, Spaghetti Fundraiser and Casino Night

Take a look at some of the events going on around the Miller Place-Rocky Point area this weekend.

1. Come down and support the Terryville Girls U9 Travel Soccer team Terryville Freedom when they host a pancake breakfast Saturday at Applebee's in Miller Place.

2. The Fourth Annual Nano Cask Ale Festival will feature nine Long Island breweries, live music and more for craft beer lovers at this festival organized by Rocky Point Artisan Brewers.

3. The Sound Beach Fire Department Spaghetti dinner fundraiser takes place Saturday with seatings 6 and 8 p.m. Adults cost $10.00, kids under 12 are $5.00 and under 3 are free. If anyone purchased tickets for the Pasta dinner scheduled for Nov. 3 that was cancelled due to the storm your tickets will be honored at either seating.

4. Come join the fun at the Miller Place PTO Casino Night Saturday at the Mt. Sinai Heritage Center. Tickets are $50.00 per person and available by mail only. You must be 18 and over; visit www.mppto.com for ticket info and sponsorship forms.

5. Join local songwriters Robert Bruey, who hails from Southold, Rorie Kelly from Brooklyn and Fred Raimondo, a Miller Place native as they bring their unique original styles of acoustic music to Crazy Beans in Miller Place.

But I also blame the absent NO vote. They need to be sent a message-we need a majority no vote but that will never happen. Glad I am out of here in 2 years. Can't imagine trying to live here and pay these taxes on social security and my 401K that tanked in 2008 while I was making up the teachers loss on their pension and paying my health insurance & theirs at the same time. So boo hoo teachers you have to spend money on the kids while I spend money on you.

Did you know that the average school teacher is only paying 15% of theRead More actual cost of health care premiums for themselves and their families, when Medical healthcare insurance premiums are rising at an alarming 17% per annum? Do you realize that teachers are paid an additional stipend if they work more than 3 consecutive periods in a day? Are you aware that teacher pensions were protected during the stock market crash of 2008, when the average person's 401K was totally at risk? Perhaps if teachers realized how good they have it - look at the BIG picture and outside of their bubble - then they would complain less. Oh and yes, we need our loftily-paid Administrators to kick in some of the salaries, to help pay for stuff. Hard to believe the school districts' mantras that "it's all for the kids".
