New Dining Options Around Town

Two new restaurants, two instant reviews. How about that?

It's an interesting time in this area as there are a couple of new, and on the upscale side, dining options. It has taken me the better part of a month to make it to both-check out my personal blog Dad the Single Guy to see why (hint: end of school + camp).

In the order I hit them up-we'll start with Ten Ten on 25A in Mount Sinai.  This is next to Lotus East and where Benten used to be before Benten moved over to Miller Place (got that?).

Overall, it was pretty good. We wandered in for a late lunch. My kids (8.5 and 11) eat sushi so its a good option for us. The girls get the soba noodle soup and I get a bunch of sushi that we split. Perhaps it was timing on our part-it was a Sunday at 2, but the service was a little sub-par.

The food was good. The girls really liked the soba noodle soup and the sushi was fresh. However, the menu (at least as presented to me) was confusing at best. Not a great experience to have a patron confused by the menu and how to order.

East of there, is Spiro's which is the namesake's outlet for the owner of Rocky Point's Sea Basin.  I was there on a Saturday night with two neighbors for a night out.

Overall the place was very nice and service was good. Here's the caveat though: we ordered a round of mojitos to start with, so this was the first item they brought to our table.  And they were anything but. When I order a mojito I am expecting a tall glass with crushed mint, cane sugar with rum, lime juice and soda.

We were presented wtih a daiquiri glass with what tasted like white rum and sprite.  I think that first impression may have impacted the rest of my visit. The food was generally good.  We did a seafood sampler appetizer shared at the table, there were two salmon's ordered and I had prime rib. All well prepared and presented nicely.  The Banana's Foster we shared for dessert was very good, it was presented a little awkwardly-as components-but good.

But when I look back at the experience-that first impression of the mojito makes me say it was OK.

Any other places tucked away that we should take a look at?
