The Things We Question, and The Things That Pass

Now, I am not a holier than thou food type. I try to eat healthy, and inspire my kids to do so too.

I am cross posting this from my Single Dad blog here to offer some insight into what its like to be a single parent in the Miller Place/Rocky Point area and commuting to NYC for work.

It was about 4:15 this morning when I got a call from 10.5 today.

"In case you call, we're going to McDonald's," was the message.

"Why are you going to McDonald's?" I asked her, knowing the house is stacked with food.  All it has to be is cooked.

"That's what the sitter wants to do," was the response.

OK, so here are the problems as I ticked them off in my head:

  1. There is a ton of food in the house-and all of it is healthier.  I almost never resort to McDonald's although that and Wendy's are across the street.
  2. It's standing orders with the agency I use, any expense like eating out has to be pre-approved this was not, I'm not paying
  3. How lazy is this sitter? Really. This can't be good for my kids.

Now, I am not a holier than thou food type.  I try to eat healthy, but make sacrifices. I try to provide healthy options for my kids, and know it's not 100 percent fool (and food) proof.  But still--the freezer is packed with options-all of them better than McDonald's.

I am committed to picking my fights though.  As long as the invoice for this excursion doesn't show up on my monthly bill-better them than me is my thought process right now.  One less Mc-D meal for me to suffer through and easy for me to say, "You just ate there, so no."

As always, happy to join in community here, on my blog
