Friends, Family Host Night to Remember Mount Sinai Resident Lost to Cancer

A celebration of life will be held for James Shalijan who recently lost his battle with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.

Family, friends and community members will join together on Sept. 22 to celebrate the life of James Shaljian, who recently lost his battle with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, and to help raise funds his wife and four daughters.

The Shaljian family, of Mount Sinai, was forced to leave their home in 2011 when it was discovered that the house had mold and could not be abated. Several area businesses and contractors including Building Hope for Long Island, came forward to help, knocking down the old home and erecting a new one. Shalijan's wife was a substitute teacher in Mount Sinai and now is now a teaching assistant in the Sachem School District.

The gathering will take place at Schafer’s on West Broadway in Port Jefferson. There will be a free buffet, a Chinese auction, t-shirts for sale and a cash bar.

$10 donation at the door. Event runs from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
