Statement From Jennifer Maertz (D-Rocky Point) on Residency Issue of Primary Opponent

While I agree with the questions and concerns raised over my primary opponents residency, my focus right now is on winning the September primary election by presenting myself as the most qualified and knowledgeable to represent the people of the North Fork and northeastern Brookhaven Town.

I understand and respect the concerns of the Second Assembly District residents who are thinking about challenging the residency of Mr. McManmon, who admittedly resides in a rented Brooklyn apartment but is claiming his parents Riverhead address to run in the primary.

They have that right, as voters, to expect that election laws are followed and that we have local Suffolk County representation, particularly in a year where election reform has become a priority for our Governor after numerous instances of corruption have been exposed in New York City-based electoral politics.

My Brooklyn-residing opponent has asserted that an attorney has no other choice but to live and work in the city. As an attorney employed right here on Long Island and a Rocky Point homeowner, I can tell you that is not true.

And his statement that he intends to move back to his parents house runs contrary to his claim that he lives in Brooklyn as a matter of convenience for work. That makes for a good sitcom pitch - a 28 year old New York City attorney moves back into Mom and Dads home for political expediency - but it doesnt make for good representation for the people of the Second Assembly District.
