Love & Thanks this Christmas!

Wow! Can you believe it? Less than 1 week until Christmas.  I haven't sent out all of my cards.  As a matter of fact, I can't even find my address book.  I didn't even bake a quarter of the variety of cookies I usually do.  Oh well, I am not stressing over the small stuff.  I have been blessed just by the company I have kept this season.

Blessed.  What does that mean to most?  I wonder.  To me, it is more than a holy word.  I feel fortunate and content with what I have.  Sadly, there are people who find it harder to get through the day around all of these holidays.  People are in pain, both mentally and physically, they need a miracle.  Families losing their homes do to unforseen circumstances.  Maybe they haven't been able to find a job...the list goes on.  How do you explain to a child that Santa didn't come to their home this year?  But visited other friends, family and neighbors?

You know, it's not too late if you would like to help brighten someone elses Christmas.  Sadly, the requests for gifts seems to far outweigh the donations received this year.  I am SO PROUD of our Girl Scout Service Unit 54 for making 8 families a happier Christmas this year.  And they said it couldn't happen!  If you call any local church's outreach department they would be happy to tell you of a toy a child is wishing for this year.  Even a $10 gift card to a supermarket would be a tremendous help for a parent.  How about you "do it for Dona (Brannigan) and get your cheek swabbed to see if you could be the person who saves her (or anothers life? Check out this great video.. http://www.dosomething.org/get-swabbed  and check out GetSwabbed.org  Perhaps you are the type of person that would like to demonstrate your helpfulness.  Contact a local "soup kitchen" and ask them what you could cook, bake, or even if you could help set the table for them.  If we all did something, one thing, and asked someone to pay it forward, can you just imagine the wonderful world we would live in?

By the way, in case you aren't aware of who is, I'll fill you in.  She is a Mom of three, a wife... who until May worked hard at the Rocky Point Diner.  She is on leave, but is a Girl Scout Leader for Middle School age girls in Rocky Point.  One weekend in May, she was concerned about an insect bite on her leg, and went to the ER.  After testing her blood, they let her know she had leukemia, and admitted her.  She has been on this rollercoaster ride since Mother's Day weekend.  Dona is a strong woman, an amazingly positive person.  After a few perfect matches of bone marrow fell through, she still awaits that transplant.  Maybe you could help her?

Thanks to the Rocky Point Fire Department for making your rounds this weekend with Santa!   To think, these volunteers spent hours driving around all points of the town in this cold!!  Oh what joy you brought to so many people.  Even grown ups!  Yes, I got teary eyed when I saw the excitement!  It was a kodak moment that I could not resist.  The kids even asked if they would be in the newspaper...lol...out of the mouths of babes.
