Miller Place grad and Utica football captain dies at 22.

Matthew Thomas Dunn, Miller Place class of 2009 and student and football player at Utica College, died suddenly of an enlarged heart at the age of 22 on June 21.

Dunn, a captain of the Utica College Football Team and an All American, was born on May 5, 1991 in Port Jefferson. He is the son of Thomas and Laurie (Niedzwieski) Dunn and sibling to three.

Beloved in the community, a letter was sent out by Miller Place Superintendent Marianne Higuera asking the district to join her in "keeping the Dunn family in your thoughts and prayers."

A fundraiser to help the Dunn family has already been organized and will be held at Napper Tandy's Irish Pub in Miller Place on Monday from 7-10 p.m. There will be a $10 charge at the door which includes a buffet, raffles, baskets and more. Further donations can be made at the event as well.

Calling hours will take place on June 25 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Rocky Point Funeral Home.
