Question: Did You Get CodeRED Alert After Gunshot in Sound Beach?

Suffolk County's emergency notification system sent out alerts in Sound Beach after gunshot incident Wednesday.

After Wednedsay's incident involving a gunman in Sound Beach, news spread fast after Suffolk County's CodeRED alert system was kicked into action.

According to the County's website, the CodeRED emergency notification system is "an extremely high speed telephone communication service that can deliver customized pre-recorded emergency messages directly to Suffolk County homes and business at the proven capacity of millions of calls per day."

After residents received a call from Suffolk Police alerting them of a man in Sound Beach dressed in black who fired a shotgun, many took to Facebook and Twitter to alert their neighbors as well.

The notification system is normally used during major storm conditions, but the County saw fit that it was put in to place Wednesday night.

Did you receive a CodeRED notification Wednesday and was it helpful? What are your thoughts on the notification service?

Those who did not receive a CodeRED message can sign up for the service here.

I don't live in Sound Beach, so I don't know if the system worked. But, I think it's a great idea. I've seen it used in other areas for missing children with autism.

I live in Sound Beach but did not receive a call. I think it is a great idea to inform residents of what is going on that may pose a danger to them. There have been time when the police helicopter is circling and you wonder what is going on. I will be signing up for the service today. Thanks for the link!

My guess is that it was the "political elites" who blew the whistle. I'm deeply conflicted as a Teabag "patriot" holed up in a Unabomber "shack" in Sound Beach by my destire for 2nd Amenment purity and a Conservative Coucilwoman who ignores me because I'm batpoop crazy. Had Ray Negron won he would've swooped in with his armor and saved the day for Sound Beach Alas I'm relegated to counless hours of whining and cowering behind my keyboard( as to deflect any real responsibilty for the welfare of my town) by criticizing local "volunteers" and calling Rocky Point a ghetto as I duck bullets in Sound Beach. I'm fairly certain it's all Janes fault and not mine for not getting involved.

I received the Code Red, and appreciated the notification. We knew there was police activity in the neighborhood, but knowing why was helpful. We did heed the warning. Being informed is far better than being left in the dark!

Hey, didn't you used to have a different name? (knowing wink).

We received two calls. One alerting us to stay inside and lock our doors, and the second to tell us the search efforts failed. Personally, I'd like to thank the county for developing this system.
I'm wondering though whether the police are aware of a new social phenomenon called "juggalos". The suspect's appearance fits this group to a tee. Would be followers of a semi-pro rap group called Insane Clown Posse paint their faces in crazy looking clown make-up and are known to be violent. In some parts of the country the FBI has listed juggalos as a loosely organized official gang. I know this sounds crazy, but it's real. Google it.

Today is February 29th. Last night at 8 PM there was another Police Helicopter flying over us with their spotlights shining down. I live in Miller Place. It seemed that the Copter was flying over Woodhull Road, over the Woods and up to the Pond area. I heard that their were multiple shots fired in Sound Beach! Can anybody confirm this - or know what really happened last night? Thanks -
