Intersections Without Working Traffic Lights

Intersection accidents are on the rise.

by Long Island Attorney Paul A. Lauto, Esq.

One of a multitude of problems Long Islanders are facing as a result of Sandy, is navigating their vehicles safely through intersections without working traffic lights. Unfortunately, many people proceed through such intersections as if they automatically have the right of way.  The result is often a failure to see oncoming vehicles with operators of the same mindset, thereby causing an accident.

If you are approaching an intersection without a working traffic light, please remember that drivers are obligated to treat that intersection the same as a four way stop.  Failure to do so is tantamount to negligence and may result in majority liability for any consequential accident.

Long Islanders have more than a full plate in dealing with the ramifications of Sandy, without having to deal with injuries and damages from avoidable accidents. Please drive safely and remember that an ounce of prevention, really is worth a pound of cure.

Spoken like a true teacher. Did you know that the average school teacher is only paying 15% of theRead More actual cost of health care premiums for themselves and their families, when Medical healthcare insurance premiums are rising at an alarming 17% per annum? Do you realize that teachers are paid an additional stipend if they work more than 3 consecutive periods in a day? Are you aware that teacher pensions were protected during the stock market crash of 2008, when the average person's 401K was totally at risk? Perhaps if teachers realized how good they have it - look at the BIG picture and outside of their bubble - then they would complain less. Oh and yes, we need our loftily-paid Administrators to kick in some of the salaries, to help pay for stuff. Hard to believe the school districts' mantras that "it's all for the kids".
