2 Hospitalized in Route 347 Crash on Saturday Evening

Driver cut from his car issued a ticket for driving with a suspended license.

A driver had to be cut out of his vehicle by emergency workers and was taken to Stony Brook Hospital with internal injuries after he crashed into another car on Route 347 in Port Jefferson Station on Saturday evening, according to police. The driver of the other car was also taken to the hospital.

According to a police report, at about 5 p.m., a 48-year-old woman heading east on Route 347 had a green arrow when she started to make a left onto Woodhull Avenue behind another car making a u-turn. By the time she was able to turn, the westbound traffic light had turned green and a 24-year-old man in a 2002 Hyundai drove through the intersection hitting into her almost head-on. Police said that the man was driving with a suspended license.

About an hour after the crash at Mar-Kays Wine and Liquor store – located in a shopping center at the same intersection – a woman working behind the counter said that they didn’t hear about it until people came into the store to tell them.

“It happens all the time,” said the woman named Mia, who only gave her first name. “It’s not the first crash.”

Another employee named Taz said that accidents usually happen when people are trying to make a left turn in the intersection. Another crash had just happened two months prior he said.

Police reported that both drivers had what seemed like non-life threatening injuries. The man also received a summons for having a suspended license.

People drive like complete maniacs here, and everything keeps getting built up so there are more and more people here as well. Unlikely it is ever going to get better! The 347 project is a joke and a complete waste of money. That road will never be better unless they eliminate 90% of the traffic lights.

This woman almost took my friend's life because she doesn't understand the right of way and the the basic fundamental rules of the new york state vehicle and traffic law. Funny how she wasn't given a ticket for running a red light, the actual cause of the accident, yet the other driver was cited for the status of his license (which anyone who has ever taken a trip to the DMV knows doesn't hold much water).

So the fact that the woman many have made her left turn after the light has turned red somehow excuses your friend for operating a motor vehicle without benefit of a proper drivers license? Why was his license suspended in the first place? Buying an extra donut at 7-11? It never ceases to amaze me how it is always the other guys fault, and no one seems to believe that so thet have any personal responsibility for their actions. In this case, the fault lies with the DMV or the woman driving for the fact that your friend blatantly broke the law and placed himself above the law, which it seems you are in agreement with. WHat a detriment to society both you and your friend are.
