Update: Area Departments Respond For Man Missing in Sound

Body of Bellport man recovered Saturday morning.

The body of Edwin Barahona, 35, of Bellport was found Saturday morning 100 yards from shore in the Long Island Sound in Wading River, police confirmed.

Dozens of volunteer fire department members responded to a mutual aid to the Wading River Fire Department, the initial activated department, Friday night.  The departments include: Rocky Point, Sound Beach, Miller Place, Mt. Sinai, and Mattituck, Ridge and Riverhead.

This all began shortly before 9 p.m. A command post was established on land, and fire department marine rescue crews assembled and began organized search patterns.  Dive team members began their search from the Mattituck, Rocky Point, and Mt. Sinai Fire Departments.  An unmarked helicopter began searching the shoreline east of Miller Place.
