Suffolk police on Tuesday arrested a Shirley woman for stealing thousands of dollars from Maryhaven Center of Hope, which operates a residential facility for people with special needs in Miller Place.
Police said Samantha Cuomo, 28, stole approximately $19,000 over a 14-month span leading up to March of this year, allegedly spending the money at places such as Hollywood Salon and Day Spa in Miller Place and Estelle's Dressy Dresses in Farmingdale.
Cuomo, who has since been terminated from her post as the manager of Maryhaven's Miller Place facility, is charged with third-degree grand larceny, a felony. She will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Sept. 11.
A police investigation ensued after another employee in April discovered unauthorized charges on a Maryhaven credit card as well as discrepancies in receipts submitted on behalf of two clients.
