Cops: Rocky Point Man Hangs Himself While in Custody

According to police, a 27-year-old man committed suicide Wednesday night in a holding cell.

Suffolk County Police said a Rocky Point man hanged himself while in police custody Wednesday night.

According to police, the man, age 27, had been arrested earlier in the day – around 11:45 a.m. – on charges of driving while ability impaired by drugs, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration.

He was being held overnight, awaiting a Thursday morning arraignment, when he was found hanging in his cell at the Seventh Precinct in Shirley around 7 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
