Crimes Nearby: Car Windows Smashed in Setauket

Police reported the following arrests between Feb. 17 and 28

Three Village

Bishal Dey, 19, of Woodside, was arrested Feb. 17 in Setauket and charged with first-offense DWI. Police say Bishal was driving northbound on Nicolls Road when he went through a red light and crashed into a wooded area at the intersection of Nicolls Road and Route 25A at approximately 2 a.m.

Windows of two cars were shattered on back-to-back nights last week on Christian Avenue, according to police. A Christian Avenue homeowner in Setauket reported Feb. 24 at 11:55 p.m. that the rear window of a 2004 Honda Civic was shot out, possibly with a pellet gun, according to a police report. Police also said a Christian Avenue homeowner in Stony Brook reported Feb. 25 at 8:30 p.m. that the rear window of a 2003 Honda Element was shot out, possibly with a BB gun. Both incidents were classified as fourth-degree criminal mischief, a misdemeanor. Police could not confirm whether the two incidents were related.

Riverhead

A Riverhead and Baiting Hollow man were arrested on Monday night after Southampton Police said they were under the influence of, and with criminal possession of, drugs.

According to reports, Gregory Koplinka, 25, of Riverhead, was stopped for speeding while at 11 p.m. driving in Flanders, and while being interviewed by police, was allegedly witnessed to be under the influence of marijuana. He was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, and cited for unlawful possession of marijuana and traffic violations. Philip Liquori, 24, of Baiting Hollow, was charged with criminal possession of marijuana in the fifth degree.

North Fork

Thomas Hynes, 18, of Coram, was charged with three counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana on Feb. 23 at 11:24 p.m. in Mattituck, after police stopped him for a traffic violation on Route 25, police said. The officer on the scene observed marijuana in the vehicle, and after further investigation, various prescription medications were also located in the vehicle along with several potentially stolen items, police said. Investigation into the circumstances surrounding those possibly stolen items recovered continues, police said.

Grzegorz Luniewski, 36, of Riverhead, was charged with driving while intoxicated on Feb. 29 at 12:26 p.m. in the parking lot of the Mattituck Shopping Plaza, after police responded to a call of an erratic driver in Mattituck, police said. Police located Luniewski and his vehicle at the plaza, and, after investigation, Luniewski was found to be intoxicated, police said. The defendant was transported to police headquarters in Peconic, processed and held overnight for arraignment.
