Crimes Nearby: DWI Checkpoints Net 7 Arrests in Riverhead

Three Village

• Colleen Kendrick, 30, of Lake Grove, was arrested May 21 in connection with a May 1 incident at Kohl's in East Setauket. She is charged with third-degree burglary, a felony, after she allegedly stole merchandise.

Police said Kendrick had previously signed a trespass agreement stating she is not allowed on the premises at any Kohl's locations. Police reports did not specify what kind of merchandise was stolen, or why Kendrick had previously signed a trespass agreement with the department store. According to court records she also faces misdemeanor charges of third-degree forgery, fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and petty larceny, and is due back in court in July.

Riverhead

• A Calverton man was charged with felony drug possession after police said they found him doing drugs in the parking lot of a Hampton Bays bar early Sunday morning.

Joseph Madigan, 27, was seen using drugs and found to be in possession of a quantity of cocaine and ecstasy, while sitting in a vehicle in the Beach Bar parking lot in Hampton Bays at 12:45 a.m., Southampton Town police said.

• Riverhead police announced on Friday that enforcement would be stepped up over Memorial Day weekend to crack down on drunk drivers, and on Saturday night, seven were arrested as the result of a Suffolk County East End DWI Task Force initiative -- two DWI checkpoints were set up on Sound Avenue and Suffolk County Route 105 in Riverhead, police said.

North Fork  

• Three men were arrested after a "large fight" that took place in a Greenport parking lot early Monday morning, police said.

According to Southold Town police, on Monday morning at 1:24 a.m., a Flanders resident, a Yaphank resident, and a Southold resident were arrested after police broke up the fight, which took place in a Main Street parking lot.
