A resident of Westwood Avenue in Stony Brook reported March 29 at 11 p.m. that someone threw a mailbox onto the vinyl bed cover of a 2007 Toyota Tundra, damaging the cover.
A resident of Erik Drive in East Setauket reported March 31 that an unknown person called at 8:30 a.m. and attempted to pull off the "loved one in danger" phone scam against which Suffolk police have recently warned. The complainant was able to identify the scam and did not fall victim to it.
A man reported an attempted robbery in the parking lot of Kohl's in East Setauket on April 5 in which one man distracted him by asking for a cigarette while another man pushed him from behind and attempted to steal his wallet.
Police have arrested a Port Jefferson Station man they say used stolen credit cards belonging to three different people.
Ari Alexenburg, 33, has been charged with one count of first-degree identity theft, a felony; four counts of second-degree identity theft, a felony; six counts of third-degree identity theft, a misdemeanor; and one count of third-degree grand larceny, a felony.
Christopher Giannico, 23, of Manorville, and Kristen Chan, 24, or Port Jefferson Station, were arrested April 5 on Gaymore Road in Port Jefferson Station and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor. Police said they were in possession of heroin.
A homeless man was arrested March 30 in Port Jefferson Station and charged with DWI and aggravated DWI, both misdemeanors. Police said Scott McCormack, 48, was intoxicated when he was driving south on Route 112 in the shoulder of the road.
Suffolk County Police and Riverhead detectives are seeking a man who stole a laptop from Staples on Route 58 about six weeks ago.
He entered the store around 3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21. Police described the man as wearing a black cap with a white logo and a puffy jacket, who later stole an HP laptop from the store, which is located near the Roanoke Avenue traffic circle.
