Crimes Nearby: Prostitution Sting in Riverside Yields 10 Arrests

The following arrest information was supplied by various Police Departments. It does not indicate a conviction.

Three Village

Suffolk County police are investigating incidents of criminal mischief at a pair of automotive shops both located on N. Belle Meade Road in East Setauket in which vehicles were damaged but no property was stolen.

In one incident, the front driver's side window was smashed and wires were ripped out from under the hood, but nothing was taken from inside the vehicle. It happened at an auto shop located at 178 N. Belle Meade Road between 7 p.m. on May 29 and 7 a.m. on May 30. Similarly, windows of two vehicles were broken at an auto shop located at 130 N. Belle Meade Road between 6:40 p.m. on May 29 and 7:30 a.m. on May 30.

Riverhead

Undercover Southampton Town police officers posing as prostitutes and johns conducted a sting in Riverside on Saturday night that resulted in 10 arrests.According to police, the operation, which took place near the Riverside traffic circle, was in "direct response" to complaints from local residents and business owners who have said there is frequent and "highly visible" prostitution in the area.

Eight people were arrested for patronizing a prostitute in the 3rd degree, a misdemeanor, one person for prostitution, a misdemeanor and one person for promoting prostitution in the 4th degree, also a misdemeanor.

An intruder shot by a Suffolk County corrections officer who found him in his Riverhead home during an alleged burglary last weekend is believed to have entered the house through an open window. The burglary suspect is still recovering at Stony Brook University Medical Center after complications from internal injuries that required surgery, police say.

According to Riverhead Town Police Detective Sergeant Joseph Loggia, Thomas Anderson, 33, is believed to have entered the home of Suffolk County officer John Kwasna, 45, through an open ground floor window. The investigation is ongoing.

North Fork

Luis Osorio, 25, of Cutchogue, was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and speeding on May 31 at 8:29 a.m., after police stopped him for speeding in the speed zone on Route 25, police said. A Department of Motor Vehicles check revealed that his driving privilege had been revoked, police said. He was arrested, transported to Southold Police headquarters in Peconic and released on an appearance ticket to return to Southold Justice Court at a later date.

August F. Ruckdeschel, 33, of Ronkonkoma, and Gregory J. Cimino, 24, of Farmingville, were each charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated on June 2 at 7:01 p.m., after police stopped Ruckdeschel for a traffic violation on Cox Lane in Cutchogue, police said.

Ruckdeschel was appointed in April by the administration of Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone to a job as a farmlands administrator in the economic development and planning department, according to a Newsday article. Cimino was stopped for following Ruckdeschel too closely, police said. Both drivers were found to be intoxicated, were arrested and transported to police headquarters in Peconic where they were held for arraignment.
