Crimes Nearby: Riverhead Man Uses Machete, Charged With Assault

The following arrest information was supplied by the Suffolk County, Riverhead and Southold Town Police Departments. It does not indicate a conviction.

Three Village

John Maggio, 20, of Stony Brook, was arrested May 8 in Setauket and charged with second-degree burglary. Maggio allegedly entered a home on Balin Avenue in Centereach and stole property.

Jerrod Lafonte, 26, of Stony Brook, was arrested May 8 in East Setauket and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance. Police stopped him at a business located at 5000 Nesconset Highway in East Setauket and allegedly found heroin in his car.

Port Jefferson

Three people were arrested at the Port Jefferson Station on May 3 at about 7:20 p.m. and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance. All of them were found sitting in a 2011 Audi. Kristie Cleary, 21, of East Setauket, was charged with possessing cocaine and pills not prescribed to her. William Marciano, 34, of Port Jefferson Station was charged with possessing pills not prescribed to him. Corey Manning, 24, of Poquott, who was sitting in the driver’s seat, was charged with possessing cocaine and pills not prescribed to him.

Joel Almanzar, 27, of Port Jefferson Station, was arrested at his home on Winston Lane in Port Jefferson Station on May 3 at about 9:38 p.m. and charged with criminal possession of a handgun.

Ronald Hughes Jr., 43, of Farmingville, was arrested at 4:30 p.m. on May 11 in Port Jefferson and charged with criminal sale of a firearm. Police say that Hughes allegedly sold a pistol for money on Nesconset Highway.

Riverhead

Tomas Jonas Lopez-Giron, 35, of Riverhead was charged with second-degree attempted assault, second-degree menacing and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon on May 9 at 8:40 a.m., after police responded to a report of a dispute at an East Marion jobsite, police said.

A cement truck driver told police that a Riverhead contractor, later identified as Lopez-Giron, first threatened him with a hammer and then came at him with a machete, police said. Although the victim did not receive any injuries, the machete did cut through his jacket and left marks on his arm, police said.

North Fork

Joshua Georges, 30, of Jamesport was charged with petty larceny on May 12 at 2:20 a.m., after he drove into the rear parking lot of in Mattituck, where he physically removed the sides to a utility trailer and then drove off with it, police said. Georges was found later in the day at his residence with the trailer parts in his back yard, police said. Georges was arrested and transported to police headquarters in Peconic for processing.

Vasilios Tsisinos, 72, of Orient, was charged with numerous vehicle and traffic infractions and a violation of Southold Town Code on May 15 at 8:55 a.m., after police observed him operating his unregistered ATV eastbound on North Sea Drive in Orient, police said. Vasilios became confrontational with the officer on the scene when he was told that his actions were in violation of the Southold Town Code, police said.

While police attempted to impound the ATV, Vasilios attempted to chain and lock the ATV in a gated area. When another officer attempted to get Vasilios to refrain from his actions, Vasilios shoved the officer away with both hands, police said. Vasilios refused to provide police with his hands and resisted arrest. Vasilios was arrested, processed, released on bail, and ordered to appear before Southold Town Justice Court at a later date.
