Crimes Nearby: Setauket Bank Robbed

Police reported the following arrests between Feb. 5 and 15

The following arrest information was supplied by the Suffolk County and Riverhead Police Departments. It does not indicate a conviction.

Three Village

A police investigation is underway in the Wednesday robbery of the bank on Main Street in Setauket. According to police, a white man described as 5-feet 9-inches tall and between 20 and 30 years old, entered the branch located at 1395 Route 25A at 11:10 a.m. and showed a teller a note demanding cash, also stating he was armed with a weapon. Police said the teller gave the man cash, then the man left the bank on foot south through the parking lot behind the bank.

Police said the suspect was wearing a beige hooded jacket with the hood up, jeans and sneakers, with a red and green scarf covering his face, sunglasses and black gloves. Suffolk County Police's Major Case Investigations Unit is currently investigating the robbery.

David Decosta, 45, of Setauket, was arrested Feb. 10 at the North County Road complex in Hauppauge and charged with grand larceny with proceeds greater than $50,000. According to police, Decosta allegedly stole money intentionally between Dec. 1, 2009 and Feb. 28, 2011 from Decosta Contracting LLC in Holbrook.

Port Jefferson

Noel McPhail, 23, of Port Jefferson Station, was arrested on Crystal Brook Hollow Road in Port Jefferson Station on Feb. 7 at 11:10 a.m. and charged with criminal possession of controlled substance and False Personation for giving a fake name. McPhail also had an outstanding bench warrant.

Mollie Gibson, 18, of Port Jefferson, was arrested in Port Jefferson on Feb. 5 and charged with leaving the scene of an accident. Gibson allegedly hit another vehicle in the parking lot of Planet Fitness on Route 25A in Rocky Point and left.On Feb. 3 at 9:30 p.m. someone reported that a 2004 Honda Accord was stolen from a driveway on Autumn Drive in Mount Sinai. The keys were in the vehicle with the car at the time it was taken.

Riverhead

Benjamin Gilliam, 50, of Riverhead, was arrested on Feb. 8 on petit larceny charges. Accoring to police reports, Gilliam stole $298 in groceries from on Route 58. Reports state that Gilliam was caught by store security cameras concealing merchandise. He was placed under arrest on a civilian complaint, transported to police headquarters, processed, and held for arraignment.

Police charged Jeremy Rosendahl, 32, of East Quogue, with criminal drug possession in the seventh degree on Feb. 8 after pulling him over in Riverside. Police say Rosendahl had a needle in plain view and admitted to having heroin hidden in his shoe. Police also charged Rosendahl with having a suspended registration and for having an uninsured car.

North Fork

Michael Massaro, 29, of Ronkonkoma, was charged with second-degree assault, driving while impaired by drugs, resisting arrest, unlawful possession of marijuana, and second-degree obstruction of governmental administration on Feb. 14 at 4:17 p.m., after a Southold Town Police officer stopped him for driving a 2006 Toyota with no front license plate and an expired inspection sticker on Sound Avenue in Mattituck, police said.

While conducting the interview at the stop, officer Daniel Mackey noticed an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and asked Massaro to exit the vehicle, but Massaro refused to do so and began to roll up the window and drive away, police said. Officer Mackey then reached into the vehicle to try and pull the key from the ignition, and his arm became caught in the window, causing minor injuries, police said.

Massaro was eventually removed from the car and resisted arrest but was subdued with the assistance of several officers, some of which were off-duty at the scene, police said. Massaro was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he was held pending arraignment.
