Crimes Nearby: Taser Used in Mattituck Arrest

Suffolk County police reported the following arrests between Aug. 23 - Sept. 1.

The following arrest information was supplied by the Suffolk County Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Three Village

Peter Morrongiello, 46, of Setauket was arrested Aug. 26 in Stony Brook and charged with first offense DWI. Reports indicate Morrongiello was traveling in a 2002 Chevrolet when he hit a tree on Route 347, Stony Brook. Reports indicate he was arrested for DWI at approximately 9:50 p.m.

Port Jefferson

Gina Casano, 32, of Port Jefferson was arrested Aug. 24 in Port Jefferson Station and charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle. Casano was arrested for allegedly operating a 2010 Toyota Prius without permission.

Peter Cash, 33, of Port Jefferson Station was arrested Aug. 23 in Port Jefferson Station and charged with lewdness. Cash allegedly exposed himself in public.

North Fork

Juan Jose Giron-Gatcia, 30, of Mattituck was charged with driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest on Aug. 30 at 12:19 a.m. after police had to use a taser to subdue him during a struggle with an officer, police said.

Police observed Gatcia driving along West Mill Road in Mattituck and not being able to maintain his lane, police said. The officer on the scene attempted to stop Gatcia but he sped up in an effort to flee and was followed to a residence on West Mill, where Gatcia jumped out of his vehicle and tried to get into his residence, police said. A struggle ensued and the officer struck Gatcia with a taser and arrested him for aggravated DWI, resisting arrest, fleeing from police, and many other vehicle and traffic violations, police said.

Shannon Hofsiss, 25, of Peconic was charged with driving while intoxicated and aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle on Sept. 1 at 6:06 a.m. after police noticed her swerving on Route 48 in Peconic, police said. She was found to be intoxicated after failing roadside sobriety tests.

Wayne Duvall, 32, of Riverhead was charged with criminal trespass on Sept. 1 at 1:41 a.m. after police responded to a call from a business owner on Sound Avenue in Mattituck who had been the victim of a recent string of scrap copper thefts. The owner told police that an alarm had been triggered and police found two men fleeing the scene on foot, police said. One was apprehended and identified as Duvall, the other is still at large, police said.
