Crimes Nearby: Two Women Steal from Homes in Port Jeff Station, Coram

The following arrest information was supplied by the Suffolk County and Riverhead Police Departments. It does not indicate a conviction.

Three Village

Jennifer O'Leary, 25, of Stony Brook, was arrested July 19 at 11:10 a.m. in South Setauket and charged with petty larceny. Police said O'Leary, who was also arrested in June after at supermarkets, stole food, computer equipment, and other items from Stop & Shop in South Setauket.

Melvin Brown, 33, of Middle Island, was arrested July 16 in Setauket and charged with petty larceny and second-degree forgery. Police said Brown stole an air conditioner and clothing from Walmart in East Setauket.

James Neppell, 26, whom police say is homeless, was arrested July 10 and charged with third-degree grand larceny. Neppell allegedly made numerous unauthorized withdrawals from another person's account at HSBC in East Setauket between June 1 and June 18. Neppell was also charged with two counts of second-degree criminal contempt, for which no additional information was available.

Port Jefferson

A Port Jefferson Station woman and another woman from Coram were arrested and charged with multiple burglaries, including homes in Port Jefferson Station, Coram and Ridge, according to police.

Christina Sherman, 21, of Port Jefferson Station, and Anna Joskowska, 21, of Coram are accused of robbing a total of eight area homes of property including jewelry and in one instance police said that Joskowska, acting alone, might have stolen cash. to read more.

Sean McMahon, 42, of Medford, was arrested on Route 112 in Port Jefferson Station on July 10 and charged with petit larceny and disorderly conduct. Police said that McMahon was spotted by a security guard allegedly taking items from the without paying for them. When the guard from Arrow Security approached him about the shoplifting incident, McMahon allegedly pushed him. Police report that an hour later, McMahon was in where he used obscene language. He was arrested at 5 p.m. at Mather.

Smithtown

Peter Balsamo, 25, of Smithtown, was arrested on first offense DWI charges on July 17. Police said Balsamo was driving in Hauppauge when he was pulled over at a traffic stop and charged for driving while intoxicated.

Jessica Birsner,19, of Medford, was arrested and charged with petit larceny on July 18. Birsner was at a JC Pennys in Smithtown when she found an iPhone sitting on a shelf and stole it, police said.

Stephanie Richardson, 34, of Patchogue, was arrested on first offense DWI charges on July 20. Richardson was found sitting in her running car on Jericho Turnpike in Smithtown when she was pulled over. She was also charged with aggravated DWI as well, police said.

North Fork

Six people were charged with driving while intoxicated overnight on July 21 and July 22 at police checkpoints as part of a East End Stop DWI Task Force initiative, reported. Southold Town Police officers along with members of the New York State Police and the Suffolk County Parks Police conducted enhanced DWI enforcement throughout the Town of Southold during the overnight period. Two separate sobriety checkpoints were conducted along with saturation patrols.

Rosemary Brown, 47, of Riverhead, was charged with driving while under the influence of drugs and criminal possession of a controlled substance on July 23 at 10:20 p.m. after she was stopped for a traffic violation while she drove west on Route 25 in Mattituck, reported. She was found to be impaired by drugs and was also found to be possession of crack, police said. Brown was arrested and transported to police headquarters where she was processed and held for arraignment.

Leslie Howard, 38, of Greenport, was charged with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, failing to maintain his lane, and refusing a breath test on July 19 at 3:30 p.m. after he was involved in a motor vehicle accident and left the scene in Southold, police said. Howard was driving east on Route 25 in Greenport and swerved onto the shoulder of the roadway, police said. He was stopped, found to be intoxicated, was arrested and transported to police headquarters in Peconic where he was processed and lodged pending arraignment.
