Downtown Rocky Point BP Station Remains Shut Down After Tuesday Fire

Fire was contained in convenience area by Rocky Point Fire Department.

The BP gas station on Main Street in downtown Rocky Point remains shut down Thursday after a fire early Tuesday morning.

The was called to the scene at around 12:45 a.m. Tuesday morning when a fire began in the convenience store of the gas station, according to Chief Ken Staufer.

"The fire was inside the convenience area and we contained it to that area," he said. "It didn’t spread anywhere."

The fire was under control at around 1:15 a.m., according to Staufer. The station, which was recently purchased by BP, remained boarded up Thursday as work was being done on the building. It is expected to reopen.

"They probably just shut it down for now," Staufer said. "That whole office area is completely torn apart so they are going to have to get someone in there to redo it."
