Early Morning Accident in Mt. Sinai Traps 2 Inside Car

Fire department used “Jaws of Life” to free driver and passenger.

Two people driving on Chestnut Street in Mt. Sinai early on Sunday morning were trapped inside their car when it veered off the road and hit a telephone pole, according to the Mount Sinai Fire Department.

At about 4:43 a.m. on Sunday, a car struck a telephone pole somewhere between Marcy and Hartwell Drives after the driver lost control while driving on Chestnut Street. The crash sheared the top of the pole and spun the car away, according to the fire department. Both the driver and a passenger were trapped in the car.

The driver was found in the back seat and could not get out of the car because the driver's door was against a large boulder a homeowner had in front of a fence. The passenger’s foot was pinned under the dashboard. The fire department used the “Jaws of Life” to free the driver and passenger.

Port Jefferson volunteer ambulance transported both victims to John T. Mather Memorial Hospital, along with the police.

We will update this story if more information becomes available.

Boulder was originally spelled bolder....Obviously an edit has been made.... DG...Those types of errors are made on purpose...to keep folks like you on you're toes (eg. find the error in my previous sentence)

Hi DGsun23. Thanks for the catch. It's been fixed.

Hi Mels Ditties. Yep. We made the correction. Unfortunately, it was not on purpose. Regular old typo.
