Fire Prevention Week Hits Miller Place Schools
Watch for Local Fire Departments at schools and daycare centers in the area during the week.
During Operation Edith, commonly known as Fire Prevention Week, students in the Miller Place School District were asked to participate in fire safety.
Students were sent home with a school assignment from the Miller Place and Sound Beach Fire Districts to plan and conduct a fire exit drill at home Oct. 12.
"Before the drill the family should discuss the procedure and why you are doing this," read the letter. "During an emergency is not the time to learn what to do. People behave more rationally when they have been taught and have practiced emergency procedures."
