Military Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing in Miller Place

The helicopter landed in a sod farm, police say.

A military helicopter made an emergency landing in a Miller Place sod farm on Wednesday, according to Suffolk Police and the FAA.

Suffolk County Police received a call around 2 p.m. about a possible military helicopter landing in the DeLea Sod Farm on Route 25A in Miller Place.

The FAA confirmed that it is a National Guard UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter, and said it may have been struck by a bird. However information about its takeoff location or destination was not available.

News 12 also reported that the helicopter had to make an emergency landing in the field, and published a photo of the aircraft on its Twitter page.

No injuries were reported.

CRACKED WINDSHIELD GROUNDED THIS COPTER.....I REMEMBER AS A U.S.M.C. CH-46 CREWCHIEF, WE FLEW WITH ALL KINDS OF DAMAGE, INCLUDING BULLET HOLES, LEAKING HYDRAULICS, BROKEN NAVIGATION INSTRUMENTS, ETC....IT WAS PART OF THE DAILY FLIGHT ROUTINE.....THIS SITUATION WAS RIDICULOUS
