No Injuries in Miller Place Deck Fire

Damaged propane tank and deck fire on Rustic Road Wednesday night was extinguished in minutes.

The Miller Place Fire Department responded to what was reported as a routine call for a residential structure fire at around 9:15 Wednesday night.

When Second Assistant Chief Josh Hagermann arrived first on scene moments after the fire pager sounded, he advised all responding propane tank was leaking and a fire had ignited on a deck to the side of a two story home on Rustic Road. The tanks isolation valve was damaged during the fire.

Officials say the homeowner notified the fire department about an explosion that was heard after a barbeque, and when the homeowner went to investigate, the deck was on fire.

He said the damaged tank needed to be cooled down for approximately twenty minutes.

Rocky Point Fire Department was called upon for a rapid intervention team. No injuries were reported.
