Miller Place Man Killed in Single-Car Crash in Port Jefferson Station

Man pronounced dead after his car hits a utility pole; police investigating single-car crash.

A Miller Place man was pronounced dead at the scene after his car struck a utility pole on Route 347 near Woodhull Avenue Wednesday night.

Gerard D'Aguanno, 49, was driving alone in his 1998 Oldsmobile westbound on Route 347 when he struck the pole at 8:12 p.m. D'Aguanno was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, police said.

The car was impounded for a safety check and Suffolk County Police Sixth Squad detectives are still investigating.
