Police: Drunk Sound Beach Driver Rescued by Good Samaritan

A Sound Beach man was rescued by a good samaritan who saw the injured man lying beneath his car shortly before the car caught on fire.

A Sound Beach man, who police said was driving drunk, crashed his sports utility vehicle into a tree and was rescued by a passing motorist who got to the driver just before the SUV caught on fire.

Police said John Boisseau, 37, was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer east on the Long Island Expressway when he lost control of his SUV, veered off the road and hit a tree near exit 55 in Brentwood at about 2 a.m. Friday morning.

Bosisseau, of Lookout Dr. was ejected from the SUV and was underneath it when Alex Mitchell was passing by and saw the crash.

Mitchell, 37, of Ozone Park, pulled over and moved Boisseau away from the car just before it caught fire, said police. The Trailblazer became fully engulfed and was extinguished by the Brentwood Fire Department.

Police said Mitchell was not injured. Boisseau was taken to the hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Police charged Boisseau with driving while intoxicated.
