Police: Mt. Sinai Woman Killed in Head-On Crash

Accident Sunday afternoon claims the life of 78-year-old Marylou Pinto.

A 78-year-old Mt. Sinai woman was killed in a head-on crash on North Country Road Sunday afternoon, according to police. 

Police say Marylou Pinto, 78, was driving a 2007 Kia eastbound on North Country Road when her vehicle apparently crossed over into the opposite lane of travel, near Shore Road in Mt. Sinai, around 4 p.m.  

The Kia collided with a westbound 1997 Lexus being driven by Patricia Vallary, 68, also of Mt. Sinai, police said.

Pinto was transported by Port Jefferson Volunteer Ambulance to Mather Hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said.

Vallary was transported by Miller Place Fire Department Rescue to Stony Brook University Hospital where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries, police said. 

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing.
