Police Target Speeders, Issue 2 Dozen Tickets

Police were set up on County Road 83 between Mt. Sinai and Coram Tuesday morning.

More than two dozen drivers were snagged for driving infractions by Suffolk County police Tuesday morning during a traffic enforcement exercise in the Mt. Sinai /Coram area.

Police issued 28 summonses on County Road 83 between Coram and Mt. Sinai between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. 16 violations of the Move Over Law and five speeding violations were handed out. Two drivers were also cited as unlicensed operators.

New York’s Move Over Law requires drivers to reduce speed when approaching emergency vehicles with their lights on. Drivers on parkways or roads with multiple lanes must move from the lane next to the emergency vehicle, according to the law.
