Port Jefferson Station Doctor Pleads Guilty in Oxycodone Case

Frank Telang, a neurologist with a practice in Port Jefferson Station, was arrested last year and charged with illegally selling oxyconone and other controlled substanced for cash without an examination.

Frank Telang, 56, a Port Jefferson Station neurologist who was arrested last December and charged with accepting cash in exchange for writing prescriptions for oxycodone and other controlled substances without an examination pleaded guilty in court on Tuesday, according to a statement released by U.S. Attorney’s Office.

A statement from the U.S. Justice Department reports that Telang “sold prescriptions for oxycodone and other controlled substances to undercover Suffolk County police officers working in conjunction with the DEA between April 13, 2011 and October 20, 2011.”

“In addition, Telang was observed meeting a purported patient at night on December 6, 2011, in a parking lot near the Long Island Expressway to provide controlled substance prescriptions,” the report said. “When approached by law enforcement, Telang crumpled up a prescription he had been holding and attempted to hide it in the door of his vehicle.”

He later went to his office in Port Jefferson Station and allegedly altered the medical file of the patient.

The undercover officers said that they were able to get prescriptions from Telang for cash without a medical examination.

In Central Islip Criminal Court, Telang entered his guilty plea to illegally distributing oxycodone and income tax evasion.

The Port Jefferson Station doctor admitted to meeting patients at off-hours in the evening in parking lots near his office in Port Jefferson Station to provide prescriptions without performing any medical examinations. He also admitted to failing to pay taxes on the cash he received for the illegal prescriptions.

Telang faces a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison. As part of his plea, he also agreed to forfeit $10,500.

Just sloppy? You're an idiot. He's a drug pusher with a medical degree, which - whether you know it or not - means he's one cog in an ugly wheel that kills about 250 people a day. Get a grip.

A drug dealer hiding behind a doctors license sneaking around at night pushing pills that kill kids & adults every 19 minutes & put 300,000 people a day in the ER. This is everyone's nightmare & everyone's problem. If you think it doesn't affect you, you're dead wrong!
