Sound Beach Man Saved From Sinking Boat

Incident happened Sunday afternoon.

Two men, including one from Sound Beach, were rescued from a sinking boat in the Long Island Sound off of Port Jefferson Harbor on Sunday afternoon, Suffolk police announced.

Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers saved Dan Antino, 28, of Sound Beach, and Brian Gulino, 26, of Coram, after receiving a distress call via radio. Police said the pair was on a fishing excursion when their boat began taking on water.

The men's boat, a 16-foot Bayliner, was half-submerged approximately one-and-a-half miles off the shore when the officers arrived at12:45 p.m. They rescued the boat's two passengers, who were wearing life jackets, and towed the boat into Port Jefferson Harbor.

Marine Bureau Officers James Comstock and Joseph Devlin, who made the rescue, are the same officers who rescued a stranded jet skier in the Long Island Sound on July 14.
