Hi ReeNee, I can't comment on other police/fire reports on the Patch, however yesterday's accident which you see pictured above was in fact directly in the middle of the intersection of Route 25A & Miller Place Rd. I was on the scene and it was a pretty serious hit. Luckily there were minor injuries. This intersection continues to be one of the busiest intersections for car accidents on Long Island. But you are correct, we do get quite a few accidents both east & west of this intersection as well. Kyle Markott Assistant Chief, MPFD

With regards to this incident and the vast majority of motor vehicle collisions, they are not "accidents". This is a controlled intersection with built in delays, so the end result is, when an incident does occur, it is the result of someone willfully break the law or driving in such a manner that they have little regard for the others on the road. These are not accidents but the result of selfish individuals who put themselves above others. Michel Miller Place

Why is it that this light and Rocky Point Rd lights do not have RED left turn lights. Not having the red on left makes people gamble they can make the turn from the middle of the intersection. Both North & South should also be no right on red just like every other corner. As you drive Nesconset Hwy. these are the only 2 intersections that do not have the red light for left turns in all directions. Think about it. All you need is a RED light at Echo and have the traffic only go when the left turn traffic is going. Keep it red while west bound is moving. This is a no brainer. Come on Brookhaven Hwy. DO SOMETHING.

I think that putting signs up as approaching that read "Approaching Dangerous Intersection: REDUCE SPEED" Could help. Another method used years ago also works. Police departments parked severly crashed cars around areas like this to let people know what could be in store for them. There are amazing numbers of studies and to everyone's amazement, no reduction in accidents. We have an exploding amount of traffic due to development and that needs to be thought over too. There's always a price to development. Trees removed, wildlife dies off. Carbon footprint increases with traffic and yes, people get injured and some die. Traddic patterns are random. When people have jobs and work places to go to, traffic has predicatble peaks known as "rush hours" and those can easily be monitored. When a region is over busy with places to go to and an increased population, you have an unpredictable dilema. Dangerous at that.

North Country Rd is another area in Miller Place that needs to be looked at...Sunday night a drunk driver rear ended a car then hit a pole and fled from the scene on foot...fortunately he was found and arrested....many accidents have occurred on North Country rd. Cars just race thru this area and this is an area where children are always walking on the sidewalks (from schools or ice cream store etc.)
