Anker Gains Independence Nod in Legislative Race

The incumbent Democrat will face off against Republican challenger Jennifer Juengst this fall.

The Independence Party has thrown its support in the race for the Sixth Legislative District behind Democratic incumbent Legis. Sarah Anker, who is aiming for her second full term in office this fall against Republican challenger Jennifer Juengst.

Anker, of Mt. Sinai, won the seat originally in early 2011 after former Legislator Republican Dan Losquadro won an Assembly seat, and later defeated attorney Karen Wilutis in November of that year.

In 2011, the Sixth Legislative District race was one of the closest of the 18 seats up for grabs on a bi-annual basis, with Anker pulling out by just over 400 votes. Anker grabbed the Independence nod that year as well, earning 612 votes on the line, election records show.

This fall, Juengst – a Shoreham resident and lawyer, who also served as the vice chair of the Long Island Environmental Voters Forum – has claimed the Republican and Conservative lines.
