Bike Safety Taught at Joseph A. Edgar School

North Shore Youth Council hosts Bike Safety Rodeo in Rocky Point.

In a program designed to properly demonstrate bicycle safety habits, lawmakers, and law enforcers combined efforts during a Bike Rodeo and at the Summer Buddies camp July 28.  

Suffolk County Sheriff Vincent F. DeMarco, and Legis. Sarah Anker partnered with the NSYC for the event at in Rocky Point.

Roughly 100 campers from the NSYC program attended the clinic which included a bike rodeo, bike safety instruction and bike safety demonstrations including hand signaling, crossing an intersection safely and how to properly wear a bicycle helmet.

“It’s very, very, important that you learn at a very early age the rules of the road," Councilwoman Jane Bonner said. "This is a great opportunity to teach responsible bike riding.”  

The second clinic was set to be held Friday but was cancelled due to rain.
