Ex-Islip Planner Lands Newly-Created Brookhaven Town Job

Appointment brings pay boost for planning expert.

Islip Town’s former planning chief, fired three days after November’s election returned incumbent Republican councilpersons, is now a chief deputy commissioner of planning for Brookhaven Town, according to a Newsday report.

Dave Genaway is moving into a newly created job via a town department reorganization spearheaded by Brookhaven Supervisor Ed Romaine and will be paid $115,000. The Islip Town Board fire Genaway on November 8, 2013 during a town budget hearing.

Bayport resident Richard Zapolski, who served as a planning deputy for Genaway, was named Islip’s planning commissioner.

Genaway had been appointed by former Democratic Town Supervisor Phil Nolan and served in his planning role for two years. Zapolski was hired as deputy planning commissioner in January, 2012.

Islip Town has declined to state why the Medford resident was fired. According to Newsday his salary while working for Islip was  $101,000.

Newsday quotes Brookhaven leaders as stating Genaway’s position, and other new jobs under a newly-created Department of General Services, will not cost any additional money as they are being paid for through attrition in other town roles.

Newsday ALSO SAID... "None of the board members could be reached for comment on the firing. Inez Birbiglia, spokeswoman for the town, said, "It's a personnel matter we can't discuss. We wish Dave Genaway the absolute best." http://www.newsday.com/long-island/towns/islip-board-ousts-planning-commissioner-passes-budget-1.6401875 I guess Crookhaven gets ALL the Losers, right ? "Franlie "Boots" is also pissed because Genaway blocked the hardware store (hooked and a big donator) from building along RR ave in Sayville"
