Go Green Event to Encourage MIller Place-Rocky Point Residents to Recycle

Green recycling event to be held Sept. 7 at the Rose Caracappa Senior Center.

Brookhaven residents will have the opportunity to get rid of unwanted electronic devices and paperwork.

Councilwoman Jane Bonner will sponsor the first Go Green Event, scheduled for Sept. 7 at the Rose Caracappa Senior Center in Mount Sinai.

“Each of these events on their own has been very successful in the past, and I expect my first Go Green event to have the same results,” Bonner said. “I urge residents to clean out their medicine cabinets, file cabinets, draws and closets so we can all do our part in making the environment a greener and cleaner place to live.”

The event will feature a Pharmaceutical Take Back from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. that will allow residents to safely turn in and dispose of unused prescription medicines and over-the-counter medications. By properly disposing of medicines, residents will keep them out of the ground water or hands of others.

In addition, there will be paper shredding services from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. where residents can shred sensitive documents containing personal information. All documents must have rubber bands, paper clips and staples removed.

The Go Green Event will also feature E-Waste recycling, from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., where residents can drop off:
