Unofficial Results Have Anker Reclaiming Seat in Tight Race

Unofficial results have Incumbent Sarah Anker reclaiming her seat on Suffolk County Legislature.

With all districts reporting, unoficial results have Sarah Anker (D, Mt. Sinai) defeating Karen Wilutis (R, Miller Place) in the Sixth District Legislature race, 7,228 to 6,871.

If the results hold up, Anker wins by just 357 votes.

Wednesday morning, she tweeted, "I am eager to continue the work of improving people's lives w/ Steve Bellone, Kara Hahn & all my colleagues in the Legislature. My deepest thanks to everyone who supported our campaign"

Wilutis and the GOP did not concede Tuesday night with results still unofficial and absentee ballots yet to be counted.

"I've got a lot of absentees, we're still waiting it out," Wilutis said late Tuesday.

After a close victory in the Special Election back in March, winning by just 171 votes, it looks as though Anker has won another close race. Rich Schaffer, chair of the Suffolk County Democratic Party, joked "we should call her landslide."

Wilutis is a former Town Attorney for the Town of Brookhaven, as well as a former Planning Board member. She currently serves as the Legislative Director to state Sen. John J. Flanagan.

"Im feeling great," Wilutis said at the Suffolk Republican Committee headquarters at the start of the night. "I'm cautiously optimistic but I never take anything for granted."

Legis. Anker took her seat on the Suffolk County Legislature at the beginning of April after to replace Assemblyman Dan LoSquadro (R, Shoreham). Just seven months later, Anker finds herself in another battle, this time as an incumbent.
