Officials came together to announce the addition of two new bus routes for the residents of Sound Beach. The new routes will add weekday service to the 5A early morning and late afternoon routes. Additionally, the new schedule will provide better connectivity and transfers to other bus routes.

“I’m delighted that the new routes will provide residents with improved options for bus service,” said Legislator Anker in a statement.  “Due to increased population on the east end of Long Island, the need for bus service has also increased.  The two additional lines will provide better transit needs for our community members.”

“I thank Legislator Anker for advocating for this expansion of service and applaud the Suffolk County Department of Public Works for bringing additional services to the residents of Mt. Sinai, Miller Place, Sound Beach, Rocky Point, Ridge, and Middle Island areas,” said County Executive Steve Bellone.

“Viable public transportation is integral to a more connected Suffolk County, and I am proud to partner with Legislator Anker to expand service in the Sound Beach community.”

Sound Beach Civic Association President Be a Ruberto said she could not be happier with the announcement.  “This additional service will allow residents to get to the mall and the train station during peak hours. This could not have happened without the support of Legislator Anker, County Executive Bellone and the Suffolk County Transit Department.”
