Rocky Point Historical Society Recognized for Saving Hallock House

Historical Society recognized by county for efforts in saving oldest standing home in Rocky Point.

The Rocky Point Historical Society was recently recognized by Legis. Sarah Anker for their efforts in preserving the oldest home standing in Rocky Point, the Noah Hallock House.

Thanks to the generosity of community supporters, as well as a county grant sponsored by Anker, the home will be maintained and preserved as a vital part of local and national history.

“The Hallock House is a rare piece of historical property that has maintained its original character and charm,” Anker said. “Through the Historical Society’s tireless efforts, the home has been saved. It will remain a cultural center and museum for future generations to enjoy.”

The two-story house is nearly 300 years old and has been largely untouched since it was built by prominent resident Noah Hallock. The house will serve as a historic museum and educational center. It will also provide historic field trip programs to schools and groups.

Additionally, the Historical Society has received many artifacts from the Hallock family, including archival photographs, letters, books, clothing, farm equipment and furniture that will be displayed as part of the museum.
