State Of Emergency Declared In Brookhaven

Residents must be off the roads by 9 p.m. and vehicles must be pulled into driveways.

Brookhaven Town Supervisor Ed Romaine has declared a state of emergency as of 6 p.m. this evening for the township.

The declaration calls for all vehicles other than essential emergency vehicles to be off the roads by 9 p.m. tonight.

Additionally, all residential vehicles must be pulled into driveways or onto private property away from the shoulder of residential streets. Any vehicles not moved off the street will be subject to towing at the owner's expense, according to a release from the town. Abandoned vehicles that are obstructing plows and emergency vehicles may also be removed by the town.

According to the statement, driving conditions are expected to be extremely hazardous as we head later into the evening as the snow and ice continues to mount. Town snow removal crews will be working through the night to clear the roads to make them safe and passable for travel.

The town has urged residents to call (631) 451-TOWN to report snow-related issues; 911 for police and fire emergencies. To report power outages or downed lines, call PSEG at (800) 436-7734, or visit http://www.psegliny.com to make an online report.

We have become a people of fear and over-reaction and let jose do the lawns for us because we don't want to break a sweat or get dirty. I have driven in worst weather than this to knock back a few Ubu's at the Lake Placid Brewery and have dinner. A state of emergency for 5 to 10 inches of snow but when a major storm was bearing down on us last year Romaine and bonner left town knowing full well the forecast. They claim plans were made for vacation during that time and could not be broken. Now this guy has the gall to order you off the street at 6pm over this amount of snow. What a circus this town is. The towing of vehicles is not likely to happen if at all. Empty threats from equally empty headed leaders. Town would be very foolish to waste resources like that just to prove a point. My buds in New England are laughing their heads off at us right now.
