Three Beaches Closed to Bathing Due to Bacteria

Beech Road Beach, Tides Beach and Sound Beach POA are closed until further notice.

Suffolk County health officials have determined that three local areas are closed to swimming or bathing until further notice.

Beech Road Beach in Rocky Point, Tides Beach in Rocky Point, and Sound Beach POA West in Sound Beach are closed to bathing due to "bacteria levels in excess of acceptable criteria", according to Dr. James Tomarken, Suffolk Commissioner of Health Services.

The beaches will stay closed until health officials are able to ensure the bacteria count is an an acceptable level. The water will be tested on a daily basis to reopen the beach as soon as possible.

Nearby Stony Brook Yacht Club Beach in Stony Brook and Bayberry Cove Beach in Setauket were closed on Thursday and remain closed.
