Town Acquires Property on Broadway for Municipal Parking

Town says property acquisition is a first step in taking advantage of the Route 25A Land Use Plan.

Taking advantage of the Route 25A Land Use Plan, the Town of Brookhaven recently purchased property located on Broadway in Rocky Point to be developed as a municipal parking lot. The purchase presents the first opportunity for the Town to build on the J6 zoning designation that is part of the plan.

The property was purchased from Anthony and Bridget Caccavale with funding in the form of a Community Development Block Grant through the Federal Government.

“Purchasing this property is the first step in our five year plan to revitalize the Route 25 A business district,” said Councilwoman Jane Bonner, “Convenient parking is a must for business to thrive and to promote economic growth along Route 25A.

"I will continue working with the Town’s Department of Housing and Human Services to help secure Block Grant funding for additional parking as well as beautification, road improvements, facade enhancements and more."

Adopted by the Town Board in January, the land use plan covers a 10.5 mile stretch of Route 25A through the hamlets of Mount Sinai, Miller Place, Sound Beach, Rocky Point, Shoreham and Wading River to the Riverhead town line.

"The input I have received from local businesses, community leaders and the residents of my district has been very important to the implementation of the plan and I look forward to there continued participation in this effort,” Bonner said.

Prior to adopting the plan, the Town Board held public hearings to amend a number of zoning definitions, consider changes of zone to 79 properties in the Rocky Point business district from their current zoning of J2 (Neighborhood Business) to J6 (Main Street Business) and to create three new overlay districts.

I kind of figured that Ted and I agree we are ruled by clowns and the real clowns are the people that voted for these jack a__es. I don't ever think they will learn. We need new ideas not the same failed policy as they keep preaching. Same as the school budget hype. Raise taxes and lower property values but the teachers get rich on our dime and retire and bring their money to other states. What a system we live in.

Pub Rowe... but of course... not on 25A where the business district (Main Street - Rocky Point) is located. However, "Pub Rowe" is filled with empty stores that have a tremendous need for parking! LMAO!
