Community Update

Ever since Route 25A was expanded there have been so many accidents some tragic in nature and certainly many will agree you can not ride a bike or walk across from one side to the other in Miller Place or Rocky Point without taking your life into your hands. Red light camera's do nothing to slow down the flow of traffic which is so heavy at times you wait at a stop sign to get across in excess of 7 to 10 minutes at certain intersections, such as Radio Avenue, due to the non-existence of a traffic light! There have been so many accidents on that corner and yet nothing is done about installing a light. The corner of Miller Place road and 25A where the two gas stations, the 711 and the corner of the Stop and Shop Shopping center are constantly the scene of an accident. Even though there is a red light camera there it does not slow down the traffic and certainly does nothing to address the multitude of distracted drivers we have to share the road with everyday. We have been witness to so many accidents due to traffic violations while on the roads in Miller Place and Rocky Point , there is never a police officer in sight to address the need to stop these drivers before they cause accidents in our community. The amount of cars speeding, people txting and having phone conversations while driving in full view of other drivers is astronomical. How many times have we seen cars weaving in and out of their lanes possibly due to intoxication or worst Drugs! God forbid you go the speed limit there are people who will race by and cut you off or dangerously drive close to your rear trying to make you speed up so they can drive like lunatics. Just the other night while on our way home had we not stopped to drop off a video at a redbox we would have been in a five car accident on 25A between Harrison and Tyler Ave, it happened just a few minutes before we happened upon them, Thank God none were seriously or visibly hurt, because we saw everyone was out of their cars assessing their damages. There were no emergency personnel or police in sight, but sirens could be heard as we were forced to pass by them because of the speeding traffic behind us. The heavy traffic is but one problem, more importantly we need to enforce and make people respect the speed limits and the laws that govern traffic on the roads. Do not drug or drink and drive, and stay the hell off those phones, whatever it is can wait, the next person you could hurt or kill could be yourself. For those who are self absorbed and do not think of or care anything about others on the roads, at the least consider yourself or those who are in the car with you. For those in a position of exacting change do something about the speeding and the distracted drivers and stop creating highways with expansions to our community roads and making them more dangerous than they already are. Those expansions have ruined 25A for residents in Miller Place and Rocky Point.
