I watched Breakfast at Tiffany's when I was little and was mesmerized by Audrey Hepburn’s makeup. I loved her dramatic smoky eye look. When I was 14, I was visiting Border’s with my family and stumbled upon Kevyn Aucoin’s book Face Forward. I bought it and with a cheap makeup kit was able to replicate my favorite looks on whoever would let me practice on them.
Fast forward about 10 years from then…
My desire to learn about makeup gave me the push I needed to enter Esthetician school. I found that with time, I preferred learning about skin care and giving facials more so than doing makeup. (by the way, New York Institute of Beauty is a great school to enroll in if you want to be an esthetician or makeup artist!)
A week before graduating, I went to the IBS (International Beauty Show) in NYC and was in heaven! I couldn’t believe all the new technology and skin care products. I started envisioning what I would want in my own spa if I were a spa owner. I went home that day and talked to my family about my future goal. My brother suggested renting a room at a salon to get started.
I looked up local salons that were renting rooms and for various reasons, couldn’t find the right one. I finally found a great location and fell in love with the treatment room! I was ecstatic and couldn’t wait to begin.
So anyway, my love for makeup when I was a little girl helped me to discover a new love for skin care. Both help people feel great about themselves.
