A 'Spooky' Surprise for a Rocky Point Grad Stationed Overseas

Rocky Point students send a Halloween care package to Army Private Kevin Blieka, a district grad stationed in Korea.

A photo of Army Private Kevin Blieka, a Rocky Point graduate currently stationed in Korea, is displayed in first-grade teachers Jessica Lukas and Christine Edmonds’ classroom at Frank J. Carasiti Elementary School to remind students of
their yearly mission to take care of others.

The class has planned to send Private Blieka a thematic care package every month, and with October well underway, students prepared a Halloween themed package with decorated construction paper pumpkins and a handwritten letter on the back.

Private Blieka’s mother, Carol, is a lunch monitor at FJC and was able to help the students with their project. She said that Halloween is her son’s favorite holiday so the project will certainly be special for him. He will be stationed in Korea for one year, after which he may be deployed to the Middle East.

Students located Korea on the world map and discussed facts about the country. They then came to the board one by one to assist in writing a letter to Private Blieka, which included their appreciation for his willingness to protect the country.
