A national organization that governs junior college athletics has given an award to volleyball player Angela Sementilli, a Miller Place native, for academic achievement.
Sementilli had a 3.9 GPA while majoring in Liberal Arts/General Studies at Suffolk County Community College (SCCC).
She received the 2011-2012 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Academic Student-Athlete Award for Superior Academic Achievement for his accomplishment.
College president, Shaun L. McKay said in a statement released by the school that the SCCC promotes both intellectual and physical pursuits.
“The recipients of the 2011-2012 NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Awards have successfully mastered both aspects of their lives and should be commended for their exemplary performance in team athletics and in the classroom,” he said.
