Celebrating the Roaring 20s at Rocky Point Middle

Rocky Point Middle School eighth-grade students recently learned about the 1920s through an interdisciplinary study that culminated in a Roaring 20s Day at the building.

Through a computer-centered project, students were immersed in the time period by working collaboratively to generate a magazine focused on the historic decade. The students’ magazine was created from the perspective of individuals living at that time. The articles that filled the pages of these periodicals were full of stirring accounts of bootleggers, the women's suffrage movement and the daily accomplishments of Babe Ruth.

To further bring the excitement of the era to life, the school held a 1920s Dress-up Day, on which students and staff members were encouraged to dress in 1920s attire. Creative costumes featuring the looks of the era were seen on many in the school.
