Community Gathers for Rocky Point Homecoming

Rocky Point enjoys homecoming festivities despite Varsity Football loss

Crowds of Rocky Point residents lined the sidewalks of Rocky Point-Yaphank Road to witness the annual homecoming parade Saturday afternoon.

The parade featured the school's marching band, the cheerleading squads of both the high school and middle school, and of course, the class floats which were constructed in the style of the Olympics, World Cup, and Rocky Point Football field itself.

Following the parade, people milled around the school parking lot where food, games and Rocky Point merchandise were available. The festive atmosphere and buzz of school spirit was a welcome dynamic for community members.

"This is a great time for the kids who come home from college and see their friends," said Rich Yannucci of Rocky Point. "Even the younger kids really enjoy this almost carnival-like atmosphere."

Superindendent of Schools, Michael Ring, felt the homecoming celebration was a wonderful event and unique in the sense that sports games and activities were to take place all day. He also felt as though Rocky Point playing Harborfields in that afternoon's football game was especially appropriate given the , who served as the superintendent of Harborfields following his time in Rocky Point.

"This game is especailly poignant for both districts, given the history Frank Carasiti had with both schools."

The school honored his memory with a moment of silence before the game.

Unfortunately for Rocky Point, the Eagles failed to take off once the game started as Harborfields scored the first touchdown midway through the first and never looked back, winning the game 20-0.

In spite of the loss, the spirits of those in attendance were quite high. Residents agree that there's a lot to be proud of in Rocky Point.

"Our homecoming parade is just one of the things to get excited about in Rocky Point," said Michele Micallef of Rocky Point. "I think Rocky Point's the most rockin' town in Suffolk County. I mean, it's a great family town."
