Five transportation employees with the East Hampton School District have been suspended within the past two weeks.
District Superintendent Rich Burns told parents and staff in a letter on Friday that the reason for the suspensions was not related to student safety.
"I want to assure that this action has no bearing on the past or current operational safety of our buses; nor is it related to any interactions between our students and our transportation staff," Burns said.
Two of the employees — bus drivers — were suspended on Feb. 1, and another three were suspended on Friday, he said.
The school board approved the suspension of the first two at a meeting on Feb. 5.
"The issues relate to personnel/workplace matters," he said. "I am not at liberty to comment further relating to the specifics of these "employee issues," but rest assured that the district's actions have no connection to our students or instructional staff.
Burns said the investigation is continuing and that he would keep parents and staff apprised of any developments that the district is "legally able to share."
